Anti-tussive expectorant decongestan
Indication
- Tussinor® syrup is used in the treatment of acute and chronic bronchitis, common cold associated with cough and as adjuvant in asthmatic patients.
Composition
Each 100 ml of Tussinor® syrup contains:
- Chlorpheniramine maleate 0.08 g.
- Dextromethorphan hydrobromide 0.125 g.
- Ephedrine hydrochloride 0.15 g.
- Guaiphenesin 1 g.
Dosage
Children:
- One teaspoonful (5 ml) 2 - 4 times daily.
Adults:
- Two teaspoonfuls (10 ml) 2 - 4 times daily.
Tussinor® syrup contains:
- Chlorpheniramine maleate, which act as an antihistamine, with a great value in prophylaxis in asthmatic individuals.
- Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide acts centrally to elevate the threshold for coughing. It is approximately equal in efficiency to Codeine but it has the advantage of producing little or no depression of the central nervous system and it does not cause addiction.
- Ephedrine hydrochloride has prolonged sympathomimetic action. It causes relaxation of constricted bronchi with its direct and indirect effects on adrenergic receptors preventing bronchial spasm, hence breathing becomes more convenient.
- Guaifenesin is reported to increase the volume and reduce the viscosity of tenacious sputum and act as an expectorant for productive cough.
¤ Therefore, Tussinor® compound provides a full range of therapeutic action against cough complex. It suppresses the cough center, relieves bronchospasm and helps to promote tracheobronchial secretion.

- Tussinor® syrup is used in the treatment of acute and chronic bronchitis, common cold associated with cough and as adjuvant in asthmatic patients.
- Hypersensitivity to any components of the formulation.
- Tussinor® is generally well tolerated when taken within the recommended dosage.
- Side effects appear to be mild, rare and dose-related and may include dizziness, drowsiness, nausea, blurred vision, sedation and skin rash with or without irritation, have occasionally reported.
Children:
- One teaspoonful (5 ml) 2 - 4 times daily.
Adults:
- Two teaspoonfuls (10 ml) 2 - 4 times daily.
- Caution is indicated in case of severe hepatic or renal diseases and diabetics patients;do not exceed the recommended dose.
- It is advised to consult a physician if cough persist after 7 days or if hay fever, skin rash or continuing headache is present.
- Bottle of 100 ml syrup.
- Store at temperature not exceeding 25° C.
