Indication
Nystatin® is used
- for the prophylaxis and treatment of candidiasis of the skin and mucous membranes that include oropharynx, and oesophagous.
- For the treatment of intestinal candidiasis.
- For prophylaxis of intestinal candidiasis in patients receiving broad-spectrum antibacterials.
Composition
Each 1ml of Nystatin® oral suspension drops contains:
- Nystatin 100000 I.U .
Dosage
*By mouth for treatment of intestinal candidiasis:
- Adult: 5ml every 6 hours.
- Infants and children: 2 ml may be given 4 times daily.
*For the treatment of candidiasis of oral cavity:
- 2 ml 4 times daily.
- The preparation should be kept in the mouth as long as possible before swallowing.
- The patients should avoid taking food or drink for one hour after taking the dose.
(Continue the treatment for at least 48 hours after perioral symptoms have disappeared to prevent relapse).
*For prophylaxis of intestinal candidiasis in patients
receiving broad-spectrum antibacterials, 10 ml daily may be given.
Nystatin® is a polyene antifungal antibiotic which interferes with the permeability of the cell membrane of sensitive fungi.
- It has main action against Candida spp.
- Nystatin® especially formulated for treatment of oral, intestinal, vulvovaginal and cutaneous mycotic infections caused by candida albicans.
- Nystatin® is poorly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract.
- Nystatin® oral suspension is artificial sweeting so it is suitable for diabetic patients.

Nystatin® is used

- In pregnant women, Nystatin® must be administered only in case of real necessity and only under direct control of physician.
- It is not know whether Nystatin® is excreted in human milk, caution should be taken when Nystatin® is prescribed to a nursing women.
- With oral treatment, in order to achieve maximum effect from Nystatin®, any propulsive or digestive and generally any agent capable to isolate the mucous membrane from the activity of the drug has to be avoided.
- Nausea,vomiting and diarrhoea have occasionally been reported after oral use of Nystatin®.
- Oral irritation or sensitisation may occur.

- Store at temperature below 30 °C, protected from light.
