Ibufinal 100
ANALGESICS/ANTIPYRETICS/ANTI-INFLAMMATORY DRUG
  • Ibuprofen is a propionic acid derivative with anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic properties.
  • It has fewer side effects than other NSAIDS. 
  • Ibuprofen is non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agent that inhibits prostaglandin synthesis by decreasing the activity of the enzyme cyclo-oxygenase, which results in decreased formation of prostaglandin precursors.

Each 5 ml of Ibufinal® oral suspension contains:

  • Ibuprofen   100 mg.

Ibufinal® is used in:

  • Management of mild to moderate pain and inflammation in conditions such as headache including migraine, postoperative pain and dental pain.
  • Musculoskeletal and joint disorder such as ankylosing spondylitis and  juvenile idiopathic arthritis.
  • Periarticular disorders such as tenosynovitis and bursitis.
  • Soft-tissue disorders such as sprains and strains.
  • It is also used to reduce fever. 

Ibufinal® is contraindicated in

  • Patients with hypersensitivity to ibuprofen, aspirin, or other NSAIDs.
  • Patients with "aspirin triad" (bronchial asthma, aspirin intolerance, rhinitis).
  • Patients with active peptic ulcer, GI bleeding.
  • In coagulation defects.
  • Ibuprofen may reduce the cardio-protective effect of aspirin.
  • Ibuprofen can reduce the natriuretic effect of furosemide and thiazides in some patients. 
  • There may be an increased risk of hyperkalaemia with ACE inhibitors and potassium-sparing diuretics.
  • Enhancement of the effects of oral anticoagulants. 
  • Increased plasma concentrations (toxicity) of Lithium, Methotrexate, and cardiac glycosides.
  • The antihypertensive effects of ACE inhibitors, Beta blockers, and diuretics may be reduced.
  • Use of more than one NSAID together should be avoided because of the increased risk of adverse effects. 
  • Ibuprofen is usually well tolerated. some minor side effects have occasionally been reported such as skin rashes, dizziness, nausea, heart burn or abdominal discomfort.
  • Rarely, asymptomatic thrombocytopenia and gastrointestinal bleeding and ulceration have been reported.

¤ Administer with or after food or milk to reduce the gastrointestinal effects.

¤ Daily doses of Ibufinal® oral suspension in terms of age: 

  • 6- 12 months: 2.5ml 3 times daily.
  • 1 -2 years: 2.5ml 3- 4 times daily.
  • 2- 7 years: 5 ml 3 -4 times daily.
  • 7 years & over: 10 ml 3 -4 times daily.

¤ Daily doses in terms of body weight (for children and infants weighing more than 7 kg):

  • Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis: 30- 40 mg/kg daily in 3 -4 divided doses
  • Antipyretic, Analgesic: 20- 30 mg/kg daily in divided doses.

¤ Adults: 1200- 1800 mg daily does.

  • Ibufinal® should be used with caution in patients with renal, cardiac, or hepatic impairment, or those receiving anticoagulants (Use lowest dose for the shortest period possible).
  • CNS adverse effects such as confusion, agitation, & hallucination are generally seen in overdose situations.
  • Ibufinal® is preferable to avoid in patients with current or previous GI ulceration or bleeding.
  • Ibufinal® : Bottle of 60 ml or 100 ml Oral Suspension.
  • Store at temperature not exceeding 25ºC.
