Vezol® suspension
treatment of helminth infestations
  • The active component of  Vezol® suspensions is  Mebendazole which is a broad-spectrum anthelmintic.
  • It appears to affect the cytoplasmic microtubules of the tegumental or intestinal cells of parasitic worms resulting in a transport blocking of secretory vesicles. This may  lead to impaired coating of the membranes followed by a decreased digestion and absorption of nutrients, e.g.glucose, thereby depleting the energy level until it is  inadequate for survival.

Each 5ml of Vezol® suspension contains:

  • Mebendazole    100 mg

Vezol ® suspension is indicated for the treatment of single and mixed helminth infestations caused by:

  • Trichuris trichiura (whipworm)
  • Ancylostoma duodenale (hookworm)
  • Necator americanus (hookworm)
  • Ascaris lumbricoides (large roundworm)
  • Enterobius vermicularis (pinworm)
  • Strongyloides stercoralis (threadworm)
  • Taenia spp. (tapeworm)
  • Hypersensitivity to mebendazole.
  • Metabolism of mebendazole may possibly be inhibited by cimetidine Therefore, upon concurrent of administration, plasma concentration of mebendazole may be increased.
  • Vezol ® suspension should not be used during  pregnancy and lactation.
  • Vezol® is usually very well tolerated.Rarely, gastrointestinal disturbances including abdominal pain and diarrhea have been experienced, particularly in patients with heavy intestinal infection.
  • Hypersensitivity reactions including exanthema, rash, urticaria, and angioedema have rarely been reported with use of mebendazole.

Over dosage:

  • In the event of accidental over dosage, abdominal cramps, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea may occur.
  • There is no specific antidote. Within the first hour after ingestion, gastric lavage may be performed.
