Indication
CEFAROL® is indicated in the following infections caused by susceptible organisms:
- Infections of respiratory tract: tonsillitis, pharyngitis, laryngitis, bronchitis, bronchopneumonia, pulmonary abscess, sinusitis and otitis media.
- Infections of genitourinary tract: pyelonephritis, cystitis, urethritis, endometritis.
- Infections of skin and soft tissues.
- Other infections: osteomyelitis, septic arthritis, and oral and dental infections.
Composition
Each 5 ml of CEFAROL® 250 For oral suspension contains:
- Cefadroxil 250 mg (as Cefadroxil Monohydrate)
Each 5 ml of CEFAROL® 125 For oral suspension contains:
- Cefadroxil 125 mg (as Cefadroxil Monohydrate)
Each 1ml of CEFAROL® 100 for oral pediatric drops contains:
- Cefadroxil 100 mg (as Cefadroxil Monohydrate)
Dosage
1)Adults:
- 500 – 1000 mg every 12 hours.
2)Children:
- Aged above 6 years: 500 mg every 12 hours.
- Aged 1- 6 years: 250 mg every 12 hours.
- Or as directed by the physician.
*Dose should be reduced in patients with impaired renal function.
- Cefadroxil is well absorbed from G.I.T. even in the presence of food. It also exhibits a long serum half life, and thus a prolonged duration of activity. It is widely distributed to body tissues and fluids.These characteristics allow for once or twice daily administration of Cefadroxil.
- Cefadroxil has a bactericidal action against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria such as: Staphylococci, β-hemolytic streptococci, Streptococci pneumonia, E . coli, Klebsiella and Proteus mirabilis

CEFAROL® should not be administered to patients who have shown hypersensitivity to cephalosporins.
- CEFAROL® should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed.
- CEFAROL® is excreted in breast milk and should be used with caution in lactating mothers.
As with other cephalosporins
- few patients may experience some gastrointestinal disturbances as diarrhea, nausea and vomiting.
- Very rarely allergic manifestations, superinfections (upon prolonged administrations)
- other rare adverse reactions may occur.
