Histamid® Syrup
Antihistamine syrup
  • Chlorpheniramine maleate is an alkylamine derivative, it is a sedating antihistamine that  causes a moderate degree of sedation. It also has antimuscarinic activity. 
  • Histamid® (Chlorpheniramine maleate) has a very good therapeutic efficacy  as a histamine antagonist with a very low incidence of side effects. It antagonizes H1 receptors of histamine.

Each 5 ml of Histamid® syrup contains:

  • Chlorpheniramine maleate    2mg

Histamid® is used in: 

  • Allergic manifestations such as allergic rhinitis, vasomotor rhinitis, allergic congunctivitis andhay fever.
  • Allergic skin manifestations such as urticaria,angioedema, allergic eczema, atopic dermatitis,contact dermatitis and insects bites.
  • Spasmodic bronchial cough without dyspnea especially when cough preparation may prevent sleep unless combined with sedatives.
  • Serum sickness.
  • Drug allergies.

Histamid® is contraindicated in:

  • patients receiving tricylic antidepressants 
  • patients with hypersensitivity to chlorpheniramine maleate.
  • Babies of less than one month of age.
  • You should not use Histamid® during pregnancy or lactation unless it advised to do so by the physician.
  • Frequently: drowsiness, especially at high doses.
  • Occasionally: nausea, dryness of mouth or throat, vertigo and headaches.
  • Rarely: edema,cutaneous eruptions, muscular spasm and respiratory disturbances.

Adults:

  • 10 ml 3 - 4 times daily.

Children:

  • (6 - 12 years):  5 ml 3 - 4 times daily.
  • (2 - 5 years):  2.5 ml 3 - 4 times daily.
  • (1 - 2 years):  2.5 ml twice daily.
  • Observe the customary precautions in patients with increased intraocular pressure, urinary retention linked with urethra-prostatic disorders and of chronic obstructive pulmonary disorders.
  • Histamid® may produce mild sedation, so it is advisable that patients should not drive or operate machinery after use.
  • Histamid® syrup: Bottle of 100 ml.
  • Store at temperature not exceeding 30° C, protected from light.
